Corona mask requirement: violation costs up to 150 euros

Corona fine catalog: If you do not wear a mask, you face a fine of 150 euros

Wearing a mouth and nose cover is said to help curb the spread of the coronavirus. In the meantime, all federal states have passed a so-called mask requirement. Those who do not adhere to it sometimes face high fines.

It is already in force in Saxony and will apply in all other federal states as of next week: the so-called mandatory mask against the corona virus. This measure is intended to limit the spread of the pathogen. Anyone who does not wear a mouth-to-nose covering when shopping and in public transport must face a penalty. In Bavaria, the fine for violations is 150 euros.

Mask requirement when shopping and in public transport

According to a recent announcement, the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health have expanded the catalog of fines for violations of the regulations for containing the corona virus.

New violations of the obligation applicable from April 27, 2020 for people from the age of seven (i.e. from the age of six) to wear a suitable mouth-to-nose cover when shopping and in local public transport.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, the so-called "mask requirement" also applies to the facilities belonging to public transport, such as platforms or waiting houses, etc.

In other federal states it has been announced that it will initially refrain from penalties; but if the citizens do not wear a face mask despite the order, this should be changed quickly.

No medical masks needed

Medical masks are not necessary according to the message, a self-sewn mask is sufficient, if necessary also a cloth or a scarf.

Special masks are currently reserved for medical staff anyway. It is controversial whether the face masks that are commercially available (by no means everywhere) are actually suitable for protection against coronaviruses.

It is usually pointed out that the so-called everyday masks do not protect yourself from infection, but you can prevent others from being infected.

Keep your distance and comply with hygiene rules

"Anyone who violates the 'obligation to wear a mask' must expect a fine of 150 euros, which can be doubled in the event of repeated violations," said Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann. "Compliance is of course checked."

According to the catalog of fines, in such cases the notice of fines can affect people aged 14 and over (the obligation to wear a mouth and nose cover is required from the age of 6).

“Store managers” who do not ensure that their staff wear an oral nose cover can face a fine of 5,000 euros.

For Bavaria's Minister of Health Melanie Huml, a suitable mouth and nose covering is absolutely necessary to protect herself and others from coronavirus infections.

"Especially when shopping and on public transport, the risk of infection is particularly high," says Huml.

However, despite the mouthguard requirement “care should be taken to keep a distance of at least 1.5 meters from other people. In addition, the usual hygiene rules remain, "says the website of the Bavarian Ministry of Health. (ad)
